English-language first-cycle Baltic Region Studies is a modern and interdisciplinary course of study for those who wish to deepen their knowledge of the Baltic Sea region and learn about the specificity of research on maritime issues of the Baltic Sea area. The studies provide an opportunity to learn about the region’s rich past, understand its complex environmental conditions, and its past and present political, economic, social and cultural processes. Knowledge from a wide range of fields will be imparted by the best specialists from national and international research centres.
 
Skills gained in the courses of the degree programme:
  • You will learn to understand the political, economic, environmental, social and cultural processes that have taken place in the Baltic Sea Region in the past and in the present.
  • You will learn to see the course and especially the consequences of historical development on contemporary events and processes.
  • You will become familiar with the specificities of maritime research in the Baltic Sea Region, the opportunities and threats posed by its geopolitical location.
  • You will learn about the opportunities for multifaceted international cooperation in the region and the challenges for the future.
  • You will learn selected languages of the region and analyse the historical landscape with modern remote sensing methods.
 
Our graduates work as:
  • specialists in research institutions, cultural-educational institutions, local action groups (LAGs) for the dissemination of knowledge, NGOs – dealing with maritime issues and the countries of the Baltic Sea Region,
  • specialists, animators and participants in multi-faceted international cooperation working in institutions, governmental and self-governmental administration at various levels with an interest in maritime affairs and the Baltic Sea Region,
  • specialists in the promotion and cultural departments of state and local administration institutions
  • museums and other cultural heritage institutions dealing with maritime affairs and the Baltic Sea Region.

Additional information:
The courses are realised in the Institute of History, one of the strongest scientific units of the University of Szczecin, awarded with the highest possible grade in the latest evaluation of scientific units in Poland (A+), in cooperation with selected specialists – theoreticians and practitioners from other European and national universities.
 
Graduates in Baltic Region Studies are able to continue their education in second-cycle studies in the fields offered by the Institute of History (Borders and Boundaries Studies; or Polish-language studies: History, International Relations, Archaeology, Cultural Heritage Manager) as well as in other fields run by both the Faculty of Humanities (the Polish-language programme Baltic Cultural Studies) and other faculties of the University of Szczecin or other universities. Graduates can also take advantage of the offer of Polish-language postgraduate studies conducted at the Institute of History and others conducted at the University of Szczecin and other universities.

Enrolment criteria:
One subject in each group of grades will be used to calculate your enrolment points. If you don't have a grade for any of the subjects in a given group, you will be given 0 points in this group. A given subject can be used only once. If you're applying to a programme based on a document issued abroad (not in Poland) which is not an IB/EB Diploma, your grades will be entered into your account by the Admissions Committee.

Entrance exam:

If your secondary school-leaving document was not issued in a country that is a member to the European Union (EU), the European Free Trade Association (EFTA) - parties to the European Economic Area (EEA), the Organisation for Economic Co-operation and Development (OECD), the Swiss Confederation, is not mentioned in international agreements (Ukraine, China) and is not the International Baccalaueare (IB) Diploma or the European Baccalaueare (EB) Diploma, you're required to take the entrance exam testing the knowledge required to undertake studies in the chosen programme.

Receiving a negative result on the exam disqualifies you from being admitted into the programme.

If your secondary school-leaving document was issued in one of the above-mentioned countries, you don't need to take the exam.
