About the degree programme:

It is a degree programme in English intended for people interested in water biology who want to develop their interest in the animate world of the hydrosphere. The programme provides knowledge of water biology, based on biology, ecology, molecular biology, chemistry and geography. During classes in the laboratory, in the field, and during lectures, you will learn about animate and inanimate components of waters, in relation to the types of water bodies and the areas in which they occur. As a graduate of this course, you will be able to interpret and describe natural phenomena occurring in aquatic ecosystems.

The graduates of Hydrobiology degree programme will know:
  • how to identify aquatic species of plants, animals and fungi
  • understand the functioning of aquatic ecosystems,
  • how to plan and perform the laboratory and field work,
  • how to monitor the water environment, assess its quality and condition,
  • how to use tools to protect and revitalize aquatic ecosystems.

Additional information:

Students have access to modern, specialized research equipment of the Centre for Molecular Biology and Biotechnology (CBMiB) and the Mobile Center for Ecological Education and Environmental Monitoring (PotamON).


Enrolment criteria:
One subject in each group of grades will be used to calculate your enrolment points. If you don't have a grade for any of the subjects in a given group, you will be given 0 points in this group. A given subject can be used only once. If you're applying to a programme based on a document issued abroad (not in Poland) which is not an IB/EB Diploma, your grades will be entered into your account by the Admissions Committee.
To be admitted into the Hydrobiology programme, candidates must submit a document from a doctor of the occupational medicine which confirms that there are no contraindications to the candidate studying this programme.

Entrance exam:

If your secondary school-leaving document was not issued in a country that is a member to the European Union (EU), the European Free Trade Association (EFTA) - parties to the European Economic Area (EEA), the Organisation for Economic Co-operation and Development (OECD), the Swiss Confederation, is not mentioned in international agreements (Ukraine, China) and is not the International Baccalaueare (IB) Diploma or the European Baccalaueare (EB) Diploma, you're required to take the entrance exam testing the knowledge required to undertake studies in the chosen programme.

Receiving a negative result on the exam disqualifies you from being admitted into the programme.

If your secondary school-leaving document was issued in one of the above-mentioned countries, you don't need to take the exam.
